Dublin, Ireland (Friday 7, 2017) – vScaler CTO David Power, will speak at this years Cloud Lightning Conference in Dublin on April 11th. Held in conjunction with the National Conference in Cloud Computing and Commerce (NC4), the conference will feature speakers from both academia and industry from a range of computing and scientific domains including HPC, Cloud, heterogeneous computing, large scale simulation and scientific computing. vScaler’s session will focus on OpenStack for Scientific Research and will feature in the ‘HPC in the Cloud Use Cases’ stream.
There are several challenges when considering bringing HPC to the cloud: is it a matter of bringing typical HPC applications to clusters or to clusters placed in the cloud provided as a service? The ‘HPC in the Cloud Use Cases’ session targets three application use case domains – ray tracing, genome sequencing and oil and gas exploration.
vScaler’s cloud platform is build on OpenStack, which is the leading open source IaaS platform, powering many of the world’s most notable science and research organisations. In his talk, Power will explore OpenStack as a cloud platform for scientific workloads and real world applications such as genome sequencing etc. and talk about the challenges, pitfalls and potential opportunities to deliver a flexible infrastructure for research computing.
As well as real world applications for vScaler, Power will discuss how specific optimisations within vScaler that were tailor made for HPC applications, are now also lending themselves to other verticals such as Finance, Big data and Broadcast and Media.
“vScaler will endeavor to continue making cloud usage more transparent from on-premise HPC systems and ultimately bring a true hybrid model for cloud computing worldwide” comments Power.
Live demonstrations of some of vScaler’s application stacks will be available on request at the event, including HPC-on-Demand and Deep Learning in the Cloud.
